Reading Your Result: Rank, Percentile and Subject Analysis

Score is not the interesting number

Your raw score tells you how you did. Percentile tells you how you did relative to everyone else, which is what an entrance exam actually selects on.

Rank vs percentile

• Rank is your position in the list. Ties share a rank.
• Percentile is the share of candidates who scored below you.

A rank of 24 means little on its own — out of 30 candidates it is poor, out of 3,000 it is excellent. Always read it next to the percentile.

Subject analysis is where the work is

The subject breakdown on your result page is the most actionable part. A subject sitting below 50% while others are above 80% is worth more marks per hour of study than anything else you could do.

Unattempted questions

A high unattempted count usually means a pacing problem, not a knowledge problem. Practise with the timer running.
